Editing & Music

I’ve always found it super interesting how different editing styles are inspired. Something I think that isn’t talked about enough is how much music affects editing.

Some people will think of a specific idea or editing style and then afterwards think of the corresponding song to go with the motion of the edit.

My favorite way is the opposite. It’s hearing a song first, then imagining what the edit would look like to the song based on the music genre, setting I could see the video taking place in, what action’s happening, etc.

Like most of the world, I’ve been listening to Olivia Rodrigo’s new album (I love it), and found ideas floating around my brain about what each song’s edit would look like (like baby music videos in my brain lol).

Who’s to say if I ever actually make them, but I always find it fun to let my brain think up new ideas while listening to new music.
