What Drives Me Creatively
Recently, I’ve been feeling super creatively inspired - so this post will be a little more formal!
Through re-exploring Charleston and prepping for the holiday season, I’ve been taking visual inspiration from the beauty around me and attempting to highlight that in my recent videos. This got me thinking about what video elements and patterns catch my attention the most.
Off the top of my head, I’ve noticed that I am really drawn to symmetry, pops of color, cool horizon lines, and interesting architecture. I’m even more drawn to places where these elements are seamlessly mixed together - in a “perfectly imperfect” kind of way.
A big source of inspiration for me that I think represents this idea well is how movie director, Wes Anderson, makes his films. The composition of his shots are so precise. If you pause one of his films at any moment, that still image could be a painting. However, he mixes this precision and beauty with complex and chaotic plots or characters. While his style is so specific, his stories aren’t bound by rigid rules.
I think it’s important for me to keep in mind when I’m making any kind of media that mixing interesting elements can create more eye-catching work.
For me, removing the pressure from myself that social media or media in general has to be or look a certain way, leaves room for me to be even more creative overall ◡̈
